I will protect our economy by fighting for equity and job opportunities and by raising revenue.
We must reassess commercial properties to level the playing field and raise revenue
I support a phased-in split roll tax structure to reassess commercial properties on a regular basis. While we should continue to protect home owners from outrageous reassessments, commercial parcels present a different story. Split-roll reassessements provide equity for new businesses and also encourage development of underutilized strip malls and other parcels. Our state gets more money and better developments.
We must expand tax credits and incentives for businesses that invest in California
When businesses invest in California, we should invest in those businesses as well. I support offering Manufacturing Investment Credits to businesses that invest capital expenditures to expand their presence in our state. And, we must substantially increase our state's financial commitment to green technology. California has the opportunity to become the center of green technology development for coming decades. I support providing tax relief and credits to businesses that generate green jobs and revenue for our state.
The wealthy have to chip in more to help our state grow. Our state needs the revenue.
A person making more than $250,000 a year should chip in a higher
percentage of their wealth. I support a special state tax of ten percent on
each dollar earned over $250,000 per person (or $500,000 per couple filing
jointly).
The car tax is regressive. I do not support reinstating a high car registration tax.
